Jim was actually on the farm team for the St Louis Cardinals baseball team. An injury forced him to abandon his love of the big leagues.

In the late 50's , with Chet Atkins as his producer, Reeves used a technique of singing with his lips pressed against the mic, and used violins in the background. The softer style of production set him apart as what later became known as the Nashville Sound.

The Death Of Jim Reeves

The story on how did Jim Reeves die is as follows. On the 31st of July 1964 he was piloting a small single engine plane with manager Dean Manuel. He became disorientated during a thunderstorm while attempting to land in Nashville and drove the plane upside down and nose first into the ground.

Word spread quickly of the Jim Reeves plane crash and fellow musicians Chet Atkins, Ernest Tubb, Eddy Arnold and Stonewall Jackson helped search for the wreckage. Jim was 40 when he died.
