Early in his career Kenny was part of a Jazz group called The Bobby Doyle Trio. From 1967 - 1976 Kenny belonged to a
group called Kenny Rogers and the First Edition, producing such hits as Ruby and Reuben James.
In 1983 Kenny Rogers received a record advance from RCA for a whopping $20 million dollars.
No other artist had been offered such a deal.
Kenny had a series of restaurants which expanded at one point to approx 350 in Asia, Canada and the US called Kenny Rogers Roasters.
The chain was taken over in 1997, and to date, only a few remain open. He failed a blindfold test on Conan O'Brien to identify
his own chicken brand, which had to be a bit of an embarrassment for the singer.
Kenny Rogers joined forces with Lionel Richie which spawned such hits as "Lady" and "Thru The Years" and he and
Dolly Parton worked with Bee Gee Barry Gibb .. to produce their duet hit, "Islands In The Stream". But of all of Kenny's hits,
he claims his personal favorite is "The Gambler."
When Kenny was 61 when he hit #1 with "Buy Me A Rose" and was the oldest singer to hold that spot until
Wille Nelson knocked him off at age 70 with "Beer For My Horses".

In Apr 2006 Kenny drew some attention when he appeared on American Idol. The Kenny Rogers facelift was the subject
that drew lots of press the next day, not that he had appeared on the show. He said he was happy with everything except the eye surgery
and was making plans to have that area fixed as he said his eyes felt too tight.
Over his career, Kenny Rogers has produced more than 25 #1 hits and sung duets with some of the finest in the business.
He was with his dear friend Dottie West when she passed away in 1991 from injuries she received after a tragic car accident.
