Merle Haggard is still actively performing at the age of 71 (in 2008) with 45 years entertaining the public.
He lost his dad when he was 9 years old and started getting in trouble, finally serving in a detention by age 13.
Lefty Frizzell gave Merle his first chance to perform on stage, but it was later, when he was serving some time in
San Quintin Prison, when he saw Johnny Cash on 3 occassions, that he began to take his musical ability seriously.
Haggard lives in Oildale CA with his 5th wife in a boxcar that was converted into a home and is still actively performing at the age of 72 (in 2009)
with 46 years entertaining the public. He had four children from his first marriage and two from his current marriage.
Govenor Ronald Regan (at that time) officially granted Merle Haggard a pardon for Merle's bad behavior over things that had
happened in his past.
